Hey if anyone out there in blog-land is reading this and would like to help I would greatly appreciate it! I am currently working on my term paper for my American foreign affairs class , with the topic of international adoption in respect to US-Russia relations.SO, if you have adopted from Russia and wouldn't mind answering the questions below it would REALLY help me out. Also just FYI, the paper isn't going to be published anywhere or anything, it mearly my term paper.I also will change names and such, just ask. Thanks in advance for your help!
Here are the questions:
When was your child adopted? What age was your child when you adopted him/her?
Do you feel that the Russian people, not just those working the orphanage, were accepting or friendly towards you?
How do you feel the court system/adoption process ran, was it fair, or was there too much red tape on either the US or Russian side.If there was red tape do you know why this was so?
Why did you choose to adopt from Russia as opposed to another country?

It's been a LONG time
Its been a LONG time since my last post but I have nothing to really report because I can't do anything yet with adoption. I have however decided that my dream child is not in VN as I orginally thought, but I now feel pulled very strongly to Russia.
I am still at school,in the spring semester of my 3rdyear out of 6 (Im doing a BA/MAT program). This summer I will be taking summer classes and staying on-campus working2 differnet jobs. This upcoming fall I have started my new minor in hopes that it can help me in the future:Russian.I am taking Russian I,Russian Lit.(in English),Modern Russian Civilization and the Civilization of the Middle Ages. These classes plus one from this semester pretty much fufill the minor minus1 more history class and the fact that Ive got to get through Russian IV - Yikes! But its got to be done. I am also going for my education cert. in secondary ed. in teaching History as an undergrad and getting my master's in teaching history after I finish my 5 years of undergrad.
Back to adoption...I have decided that I want Russia, and that I would like to adopt any little girl aged 0-5 which I am hoping that when the time comes will help to speed up the process.I have also been looking at agencies and so far I am liking About Adopt a Child and HAPS of NJ and Adoption Associates. The right one for me however will have to be decided when the time gets closer.
The other day I was looking at Waiting Children who had nothing wrong with them except that they were older and this little girl stole my heart and I SO wish I could adopt her now.ARG I just can not wait until I am done with college and grad school and can get my own place and start the process! The only good thing about grad school, except for the pay raise,is the fact that I can live at my dorm and I can
also work full time at a local school allowing me to save up a ton of cash so I can have a really good base for my own place and my adoption fees.:) And Yes I do tend to find the positive in almost every situation.

Hello!
Hey everybody in blogworld!Today I decided to start this blog to document my feelings and journey to adoption. Right now I am a twenty year old college student, in my third year, and I am studying history, asian studies and education. But I know that as soon as I am old enough(25) that I want to adopt. I have went so far as to look up country info., and agencies and fees all just to get an idea about what to expect. I also have read a ton of the blogs on-line and really enjoy reading them and seeing other families find their children.I mysef am thinking about adopting from Asia, imparticuraly Vietnam. I really enjoy the culture of Vietnam and the people there, also it is one of the few countries that single women can adopt from.
As of right now noone at all knows about my plans because I know that they would just think Im crazy since Im only 20, well about to be 21. But you know how things just come into your dreams and you wake up and know that this is what I was meant to do? Thats the feeling that I have. I mean I don't want to be the next Angelina Jolie but I really think that for me international adoption is the way to go. I know that my parents will support this decision when the time comes , and Im a little bit older and I have a real job and my own apartment and stuff. But right now Im just SOOO excited at the idea of adopting and getting to have my own little munchkin!
This sounds kinda crazy but I already have a sorta-kinda plan, I plan to graduate college in 09, and then get a teaching job while at night I attend grad school for my masters in education(Thats how it works at my school) and then I will have my masters in a little under a year. I also will be starting my second year of teaching when I have my masters. I then plan to save all possible money that doesn't go towards rent and school loan payments for adoption, I figure that I should be able to save a lot since Ill be making close to 50k a year and won't need to much to live off of. My third year of teaching Ill get tenered and Ill turn 25, so that works out well. I plan to then start the adoption process and I will have all the nessacary money to do so. So thats me and thats my plan. What do you all think????????
